Out-of-this-World Bedroom | Littleton, CO | Neo-Noir Modern Bedroom Remodel

For this HouseHome project, I (Christine Mechelse, owner and principal designer for HouseHome) designed a Neo-noir, space-inspired teen bedroom that encourages imagination while maintaining a modern, elevated aesthetic. My daughter’s fascination with astronomy and deep-space visuals became the foundation for a room where she can dream big without feeling confined to a traditional “theme room.”

To strike the right balance, I envisioned a modern NASA office–inspired space, blending authentic vintage elements with contemporary design. We sourced original 1960s mid-century furniture and space-era lighting, which instantly grounds the room in the history of NASA’s early missions. These collectible pieces add depth, authenticity, and the curated luxury that defines HouseHome’s approach.

A dramatic black accent wall sets the stage for the Neo-noir palette, creating a moody contrast that enhances the room’s cosmic feel. Space art, astronomy prints, and curated memorabilia add personality and dimension, giving the space a gallery-like presence while complementing the modern furnishings.

New accent pieces and layered textures ensure the bedroom still feels fresh, youthful, and “teen enough,” avoiding the overly literal thematic look. The result is a sophisticated, space-themed bedroom in Littleton that merges mid-century modern design, celestial inspiration, and luxury interior styling—a truly personalized sanctuary that reflects both imagination and style.
