Historic Highlands | Part Two - Living Spaces / by House Home

Continuing our tour of the "Historic Highlands" interior design project, let's now explore the living spaces that seamlessly blend the home's original charm with modern comforts.

The Sunroom

As we step into the sunroom, the first thing that catches the eye is the beautifully preserved original terracotta tile flooring. The square ceramic subway tile baseboards have also been meticulously maintained, with any broken pieces carefully replaced to match the existing ones.

The room has been painted a warm, earthy tone of Iron Ore, providing a perfect backdrop for the stunning Anthropologie wallpaper that adorns the ceiling. An original antique light fixture, relocated from the home's entry, casts a soft glow over the space, complementing the charcoal velvet curtains that hang from brass rods.

Cozy velvet swivel chairs invite visitors to sink in and bask in the natural light that streams through the original wood shutters. Luxurious throw pillows add a touch of elegance, while the overall design effortlessly captures the essence of the home's history.

The Family Room

Stepping into the family room, the attention is immediately drawn to the cozy Restoration Hardware seating, including a plush sofa and swivel chairs. A brass and marble coffee table grounds the space, while cozy throws and pillows create an inviting atmosphere.

The family's vintage book collection is neatly displayed on the restored bookcases, adding a personal touch to the room. After much debate, the original fireplace has been kept, with the hearth removed and the wood flooring seamlessly laced in. The wall sconces, all original to the home, and the pendant light, relocated from elsewhere in the house, complete the timeless look.

The Drop Zone

As we move through the home, the drop zone immediately catches the eye. An art deco armoire, found at an estate sale, has been transformed into a stunning focal point, with custom-built stairs and framing to showcase its beauty. Nearby, the team has created custom drop zone cabinets for each member of the family, ensuring a practical and organized entry.

The Office

Stepping into the office, the antique store desk takes center stage, complemented by custom cabinetry that provides ample storage. The room's original antique library adds character, while the relocated light fixture casts a warm glow over the soapstone desktop.

The Porch and Upper Deck

Stepping outside, the restored wood ceiling trim of the porch immediately draws the eye, while the addition of fun swings adds a playful touch. Ascending to the newly added upper deck, the panoramic views of the Rockies from Pikes Peak to Boulder take your breath away. This level features a vintage dining set, a grill, and lounge seating, creating the perfect space for alfresco gatherings.

Loft Living and the Wet Bar

Tucked away on the new upper level, the loft living space and wet bar offer a more modern contrast to the rest of the home. The tile-clad wet bar serves as a stylish entertaining hub, while a tapestry in the stairwell adds a touch of warmth to the space. Custom wood-wrapped beams, new banisters, and staircases seamlessly integrate this addition into the overall design.

Throughout the living spaces, the "Historic Highlands" project showcases a remarkable balance between the home's original character and contemporary comforts, creating a truly exceptional living experience.
